Libertalia:
On the surface, Libertalia is a tropical island only populated by indigenous birds, lizards and one breed of monkey. There is no human life, nor has there ever been - the sandy beaches and thick forests look to be untouched.
But at certain hours, when the tide is out, a gaping cave mouth reveals itself - large enough to fit a full sized ship coming in or out. The pass through it is dangerous - the rising and falling waters have eroded stalactites and stalagmites into ship breaking sharpness - and there is but one safe path through, which only either a well-trained navigator or a Libertalian pirate captain with a map can navigate. When attempting to enter, watch for lantern signals - the pirates on the inside keep strict watch because if there is one crash in the pass, those on the inside are trapped until every last bit of debris has been cleared.
The arm of the island on the inside is one giant dock - this island can fit up to thirty ships at one time, allowing for meetings, trades and celebrations. As you get past the cave mouth, a small ship with two to three men on it guided by a lantern will approach your ship to collect a token from your captain and tell you where you can dock your ship.
Once you are docked, there are many places to go and many levels to explore. The dock of the cave is the only natural part - the rest of the cavern has been dug out by generations of determined pirates.
The cavern is designed in levels, the dock being the lowest one, and the higher you and your crew have to go up to find your quarters the better your rank amongst these pirates. The level above the docks involves sea based trade - ship parts, fishing, cannon supplies, and other odds and ends are traded for here. The quarters for the newest groups of pirates can be found here, also.
The next level up is all for food - with the variety of backgrounds that these men and women come from, there is a nearly unlimited variety of food. Any homesick sailor can have a taste of home. There is also another level of quarters here.
The third level up is textiles - you can find nearly any kind of clothing, rope, or bandages here, and the living quarters are a step up in general quality than the previous two.
The fourth level is all about fun - since over the years many people have migrated to Libertalia, there are a few pleasure houses to be found. If you aren’t in to the young men and women that are there for your service, most of these buildings are willing to rent rooms for the night or day if you do not wish to use your own. There are no quarters on this level.
The final and fifth level is for highly respected captains only. In other words, only the ones who have managed to get their hands on a Piece of The Map and are part of the pirate counsel. If you’ve managed to make it this far, you are largely in charge of the goings on in Libertalia - and are also partially in charge of the making of the Code.
