Settling himself down on the bench with a boneless, tired flop, Emrys couldn't help but smile at Alfred's enthusiasm. The boy always seemed to be so bright and cheerful - and the Brit always let it lift his easily depressed moods. "Alfred, Lt. Rasmussen is one of the two pilots that we were told was coming. Inuk, this is Alfred, he's our personal mechanic for the dragons. And a damn good one at that."
He was about to comment more, but was distracted by one of the cooks who - bless her soul - brought him a hot cup of tea as well as a pot of coffee and some cups for the other two at the table. Mumbling a tired thank you that got a light laugh from the lass - ensign, blond haired, always smiled, always made tea for him when he came into the mess and some days Emrys was certain she was flirting with him even though he knew it couldn't be - he took a sip from a wondrously strong cup of chai and felt the first dregs of a bit of energy seep back into him.
"Ah right. And Alfred, the other member of our team will be joining us tomorrow. The jet lag got to him. We were just touring about the place and I figured you'd want to meet at least part of the new team."

He laughed at Inuk’s comment on the food, giving a small shrug. ”Eh, this is actually a small meal for me.” Which was true, and again Alfred debated going to get seconds. Accepting the offered hand he met the fearless eyes with his bright ones hidden behind the wire frames (that he reluctantly put on today). He decided he liked this Inuk guy. Things were going to be more lively around here with the Greenlander around.
”I’ve made sure your dragon in top-notch condition. But if anythin’ looks off let me know.” Not that anything was wrong, Alfred was 100% sure he’d fixed any kinks that the dragons could possibly have. Momentarily distracted he looked at Emrys exchange with the cook, barely managing to hide his snort as he dove back into his meal. Honestly, maybe he should lend the Welsh man his glasses. Especially hif he was blind to blatant flirting.
Instead he nodded to what Emrys continued to say about the other member of the team. Oh that sucked, jet-lag was always the worst. Hopefully they adjusted well enough. [/color]

“Small?” Inuk remarked, chuckling as he released the American’s hand, mint green eyes glinting in mirth. “Then between you and me, Al, we’re going to have this place cleaned out in a week.”
Mechanic, huh? Inuk gave the kid another glance over, taking stock of the A.V.M’s commendation, and decided that, hell, even if the guy looked a bit young, there was a certain mettle to him that Inuk could easily recognize in himself—the guy didn’t look like a geek riding someone else’s coattails, that’s for sure. The Inuit grinned, nodding toward the blond. “I’m counting on it—soon as I get near the thing, you’re gonna have to tell me everything you know about her.”
He may not be a grease-monkey, but that didn’t mean the Greenlander didn’t know his way around a wrench.
Inuk looked up as one of the night-staff approached, bearing caffeinated beverages that made the Greenlander’s eyes light up. “Much obliged,” he remarked, accepting one of the cups and pouring himself a hot drink. It would take the edge off his hunger, at least. He watched in amusement as the ensign put the moves on the officer, quirking an eyebrow and grinning knowingly at the Welshman once she passed.
“Definitely ring-less,” he wryly noted, unable to resist lightly ribbing the man that was going to be his teammate, “but she might be looking.”
After taking a small sip of coffee and finding that it was still a touch too hot for his liking, the Inuit set the cup down to cool and stood up, sticking his hands back into his pockets. “Here’s meeting me—and I’ll be back when I have some food.” He glanced at the exhausted officer, flicking his hair back. “I think I got most of the layout down, Ems, if you wanna head back up and hit the sack,” he assured, grinning as he began to walk off. “I’ll stick around here for a while yet.”
Now, on to that meat…

Wondering belatedly what the other two were laughing over - was he really so tired that a joke went completely over his head? - Emrys gave Inuk a slight nod. "I appreciate the offer. I'll stay long enough to finish my tea and then head out. Need to get some stuff done before we all get together to go over the dragons, and for that I am very certain I need some shut eye." Well, whatever the joke was, at least it meant that the two were getting off quite well despite having just met.
"Both of you make sure you get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for all of us and I don't want anyone missing important information just because they were tired." Emrys couldn't help but smile a bit behind the rim of his tea mug. Just a few short years ago and he wouldn't have had the voice or the ability to give out orders as simply as that. And as tired as he was, his mind seemed to be very quick to meander back to the days where he was quiet and nearly invisible in his own family. The times certainly had changed things.
And with the dragons and his team, he hoped to change them back to the better.
