The Lucky Dragon
Allegiance: The Seas
Based off of the famed Turtle Ships of ancient Korean history, the Lucky Dragon is an iron-clad warship, passed down from generation to generation down the Im line, finding its way to its current crew’s hands through a combination of sheer luck and fate, earning her name in more ways than one.
Her top deck is made with firm boards two-inches to a foot thick, roofed with iron plates covered in innumerable spikes that prevent enemy ships from boarding. Though she remains a slow cruiser thanks to her U-shaped hull, the Lucky Dragon is capable of full rotation, presenting a tactical advantage over slower-turning European vessels. Operated by eight oars to each-side (with a modern mechanical addition, rendering actual oar-work unnecessary), and equipped with retractable double-masts, the most impressive thing about the Lucky Dragon is both her manueverabilty and sudden bursts of speed.
Also worth mentioning, however, is her considerable arsenal. The dragon-shaped figure head at the bow is equipped with a versatile gun-port, capable of shooting both regular cannon fire and actual flames when managed by a skilled operator. Beneath that, and hidden under the waves, is a powerful battering ram capable of causing an impressive amount of damage to nearby ships. A total of twelve gun cannons line the sides, six to each, all occupying the uppermost level of her three-story interior. Like all of her kind, the stern is shaped in form of a turtle's tail.
Regarding her inner structure, the Lucky Dragon has a total of three levels. The upper most level is where most of the ship-buisness is carried--it hosts the command room, the gunports, and conference cabins for the captain and his officers. The way this level is set, crew-members can look out from within the ship at enemy vessels, but remain safely hidden from outside view. The mid-level is primarily storage, with two cabins used for metal-works and three for arsenal and weaponry. The main mechanisms operating the oars can also be found here. The bottom-most level is where the kitchens, mess hall, and brig are located, along with the operating system for the battering ram.
The mess hall at the stern of the ship resembles a traditional banquet hall, one step lower than the rest of the floor with bamboo flooring. All the tables are low, with soft pillows for seats. The kitchen is located along the back on a top step, with a wide window and table for everyone to come up and grab food, and there is a stage-like area on the port side decorated with rich ornaments and primarily Asian instruments gathered from the Lucky Dragon's travels.
While the upper-two levels are clearly geared towards the effects of all naval ventures, the lowest level is more clearly set up as a large home than as a barracks. This is in part to the crew's close ties--those that aren't blood-related are close enough to family not to make a difference. The captain chooses to make his quarters here, with the crew, rather than take the fancier cabins on the uppermost level. Every room is customized to her residing crew-member, its contents reflecting their accomplishments and personality. For example, the inheriting crew-member of the ship decided to spruce up his door with a special emblem.
What may mark the crew of the Lucky Dragon unique amongst most vessels is her unconventional neutrality. Never attacking innocent merchant ships, the Lucky Dragon makes her way primarily through treasure hunting, honest employment, and by attacking other rogue vessels as a merchant escort. Highly honorable, the Lucky Dragon is pirate only in rumor, it's primary objective to become powerful enough to reunite the lost family and to bring vengeance on the criminals that first tore them apart.
Though it is no secret that the Korean inheritor of this ship has designs regarding the legendary Treasure. Whether or not such dreams of grandeur will play out remains to be seen...
