Well. This was certainly something that wasn't going to end up on his report. Luís started to sigh, trailing off into a short coughing fit as the thick scent of sap and rot assaulted him yet again. Picking his way further up onto "dry land", the young Lieutenant looked over his shoulder to make sure his sisters were still okay and hadn't managed to fall off the oversized tree limbs and into the murky waters.
How exactly had he and his siblings come to end up on what appeared to be a giant floating city of trees? He knew that they'd been sent off on their first official mission from their Parents, something that Luís had felt an extremely vindictive pleasure for - now was his first chance to get even a small bit of revenge against the pirates, the ones responsible for the injuries he and his sister had suffered - and the trip started off perfectly well.
Then whomever had been in charge of piloting their Leviathan had managed to drift them off course. And into something that wasn't on their map and didn't show up on their scanners. Luís could vaguely remember the alarms that went off, the shaking of their submarine and being tossed out of his seat into a railing. The pain in his head and the bump he felt on his forehead just above his fake eye attested to the fact that he'd been knocked out for the rest of the impact.
After waking up and getting caught up, it had become apparent that the Leviathan had become tangled in the roots of these giant floating trees and no amount of reversing or fancy driving was getting them out. Essentially, they were stuck until they managed to cut their way out. But to do that, someone had to assess the risks and dangers. Luís had volunteered to go see the damage from the surface - and thanked the fact that the Leviathan had managed to get tangled with the sail above water, so it wasn't as if they were stuck inside and doomed to call home on their first trip out.
The trees were... interesting. But it was damp, smelled of injured trees, dead things and the insects were trying to eat him alive. Every surface was slick and he himself had slipped enough the first time he stepped onto a root to soak his pant legs up to the knees. All in all - it was a trying first mission. Considering the mission hadn't started yet and they were already in trouble.
What else could go wrong?
