There was no mistaking that Eduard enjoyed working in a mechanics shop. Sure it didn’t work on any of the smaller things that Eduard was really interested in, but the friendly atmosphere and the lax attitude the owner had about being professional certainly made up for that. He could always work on his little projects at home, since he’d made his living room into a mini-workshop.
No matter how much he liked his job though, Eduard look forward to the rare days off when he could spend all is time from sun up to sun set working on the problem of getting a miniature airship to fly. He worked on other things, to keep from getting to frustrated, but he always came back to the project his grandfather had started all those year ago.
Stretching to sooth his aching back, sitting hunched over for hours on end hurt, Eduard finally got up to go and get something to eat. A quick glance into his cupboard made him grimace. There wasn’t much food left in there. He’d have to go grocery shopping soon. The last of his beans and some leftover chicken were lunch and then he was back to the low table with parts and tools spread out on it.
He would definitely finish this clockwork squirrel today so he could test it out at the park after work tomorrow. His bird and squirrel could move around the park until they ran out of energy tomorrow and he could see how long the spring that made the gears turn would last.
A knock on his door made him look up from the squirrel’s tail, which would hold the spring that gave it power. No one ever visited him at home. Not even his boss had ever bothered since they never really had to call him in. Getting up, he wiped grease on a towel in his back pocket and tried to wipe some off his cheek, only making it worse, and went to answer the door. “Tere…?"

Feliks had been searching for a long time for his friend. News that the man had come to England had delighted him, especially when he found himself in the area. It had been a long time since he'd seen the Estonian. Last he knew the man had a crush on him, and he'd be damned if he didn't return those feelings right back. Finding the man had been a little hard, having to go down to the place he worked only to find him not there. The story of needing an expert to fix something dear to him had managed to coax an address from one of the men, and he'd been off to find the place.
When he'd found it, he knocked on the door, waiting with excitement to see his friend. He was sure Eduard wouldn't recognize him. Golden-blonde locks pulled back into a short ponytail, and his clothing far more appropriate for his gender. When the man came to the door he grinned at him. "Witam~" he was happy to see than Eduard hadn't changed any since he'd last seen him, and had to fight back a giggle at the grease on his face.
"I was told I could find a master of clockwork mechanics here, unless the men at the shop down by the docks were lying?"
The urgency and curiosity in his voice was plain, though he didn't sound pushy or mean really. Just like someone who wanted an answer so he could be on his way. He knew that this was the man he was looking for, but it would be interesting to hear his response.

One blink, two. Eduard frowned as his vision flickered and instead of a handsome blond man it was a pretty Polish girl standing before him. She smiled, a sparkle in her eye that always made him feel warm. Then she was gone and it was just a man before him. A very attractive man, but a man none-the-less.
“A master? I don’t know about that.” He smiled, wiping more grease on his trousers. “I just tinker here and there is all. Where did you hear I was a master?” It was a bit flattering that someone thought so highly of his skills, but he didn’t consider himself on the same level as a master of the craft.
Realizing how rude he was being, Eduard stepped back and to the side. “Forgive me, please come in. You said you were looking for someone who knew something about clockwork?” He closed the door behind the man and showed him to the only clean seat in his house. A couple unfinished projects were moved off the table and Eduard smeared more grease on his cheek in an effort to clean it.
Teal eyes looked around, a bit nervous at having someone in his tiny home. He usually met with clients at the shop but he’d finally got a day off. He wasn’t used to being a host, but he did know a little about it. “Would you like some coffee? Or tea?” Some people didn’t like coffee even if Eduard sometimes lived off it.
Maybe he’s get lucky and this customer would have something that would be expensive to fix. He could buy enough parts to finish the mini-airship with some to spare for tweaking.

Feliks chuckled, responding to the question of where he'd heard the man was a master with only "Just around." Though only a moment later Eduard seemed to locate his manners, and stepped aside, welcoming him into his home. He stepped in quietly answering his question with a quiet "Yeah, you'd be surprised at how hard it is to find people who can work with clockwork these days." Which was only safe to say because they were becoming rarer. His true motives were still masked. As he sat down his eyes scanned the room, noting how cluttered it looked, but in an oddly elegant way.
He said nothing about the fact the man wasn't helping the mess he'd made of his face, but he figured there would be a time to tell him about that later. His attention was drawn back with the question, and while the offer of coffee was tempting, he reminded himself again there would be time for that later. "Ah...thank you, but I think I will be fine." Though something in his tone suggested the offer was appreciated anyways.
With a soft smile he waited a few moments before producing the pocket-watch and explaining. "So like, I've had this thing for a long time now, it was a gift from..ah...a very dear friend of mine, but it's never been right, even when you try to set it to the right time somehow it ends up incorrect. I was wondering if anything could be done about that." He found a memory flickering across his thoughts. 'I'm the only one who knows how to fix this, even if you try to set it right it will end up wrong.' A strange sort of way to promise "We'll see eachother again someday", but he'd liked it. It wasn't as if he had need for the time anyways.

Reaching out to take the watch, Eduard frowned at his shaking hand. Why was he trembling? It wasn’t like he hadn’t been given a watch to fix before. This one sounded like a challenge, a very familiar challenge, but he could fix it. When he popped it open Eduard discovered why his hands couldn’t hold still. On the inside of the watch was a tiny engraving; “To Feliks, Eduard” This watch…he’d given it to a tavern girl in The Floating City of Wind. How had this man gotten it? Teal eyes lifted to look at him, ready to ask where he’d gotten it, when that strange niggling in his mind started again. “You say a friend gave this to you…?” He frowned and looked over the man a little harder. It couldn’t be….could it? “Feliks…?”

Eduard looked so scared, it was kind of adorable. Feliks couldn't help but giggle sweetly. "Who else would come looking for you with that, Eduard?" He was grinning ear to ear now, delighted to be back with his old friend, the handsome young man who had loved him. Though he had thought he was a girl then, would he stop loving him because he was not a woman? He didn't even want to think about that.
"I'm sorry I never told you...about me...I couldn't tell anyone...didn't want to risk being found y'know?" He had told Ed that his mother wanted him back, and that he was on the run from a life of forced marriage. "I hope...you can accept that I'm not entirely what you thought I was."
He wanted so badly to still have Eduard to love him, to be with him. He needed that small comfort in his life, now that Toris was nowhere to be found. Feliks wanted to bring Eduard to The Grim with him, to join the crew and help him find their old friend. They needed to be in it together, because Feliks needed someone he trusted with him. Someone he knew understood him.

“I-it’s okay…” He swallowed thickly, trying to reconcile the pretty young woman he’d adored to this equally attractive young man. Eduard glanced down at the watch again and took a deep breath. Did it really matter what parts Feliks had? He was still Feliks, the person that had scolded him for not eating and smiled so brightly that Eduard was dazzled for hours.
Looking back up, he gave a firmer smile than he thought he would be able to. “You’re still Feliks.” He set the watch down on his table and reached out to take Feliks’ hand, only to pause half way when he noticed the grease on his fingers. Feliks had hated being greasy. The few times Eduard had hugged he-him when he was working the gir-man had complained for hours about how this dress was ruined or his skin would stain.
“I missed you.”

Feliks smiled warmly, reaching out to take Eduard's hand in both of his. He would wash the grease off later, for now his friend needed the assurance. "I missed you too Eddie." He had always called him such silly named, stupid things really. The other had never seemed to mind before.
"I'm sorry...if me being what I am changes things...I didn't mean to keep it a secret, I wanted to tell you...I just never got the chance." He had promised himself when they saw eachother again he would tell the truth, and here it was. He was opening up to the man, surprised by his own bravery.
"I...The story I told you about my mother wanting to marry me off to someone against my will, that was all true. She made me pretend to be a girl so she could marry me off to some guy, she was crazy....So I ran, and I continued to pretend to be a girl knowing she would be looking for her son, because she thought I would start being a boy again.."
He sighed. "I should have told you sooner...But I came...to ask you something..." A pause. "Something important..."
He needed Eduard with him when he set out with Arthur, he didn't want to leave his friend behind again. Eduard could help the ship, and he could help Feliks hunt down the pirates who had taken Toris.

“It’s…” He stared at their hands, swallowing thickly. The girl he’d loved for years was here. Only, she was a boy. He looked into Feliks’ open face, the honesty and longing there making him unconsciously straighten. “It doesn’t matter Feliks I still…” He blushed and stared back down at their hands. “I still have feelings for you…even if you are a boy.” He mumbled the last bit, the blush spreading to the tips of his ears.
Taking a deep breath, Eduard looked up again. “But you came to visit me as a boy, so has your mother given up?” He didn’t want Feliks to take any unnecessary risks just to meet up with him. It wasn’t worth her-his mother finding him. “She won’t find you because you did this?”
At the admittance of why he’d come, Eduard lifted his free hand, mostly cleaned off by the rubbing it had gone through against his pants, and brushed some hair out of Feliks’ face. “What is it? You know I’d do anything to help you.”

Feliks’ face lit up when Eduard admitted to still liking him. Good, then nothing was ruined at all, even if it was probably a little more awkward. He asked about his mother though, and Feliks frowned. “I don’t know actually, but like, if she hasn’t caught me yet, I don’t think she ever will. It’s been so long, I bet she’s given up…or she’s dead. I don’t know.” He shrugged. “I like totally don’t mind the girls clothes now though, I kinda like them.”
They were comfortable and made him feel pretty. Plus people underestimated him when they thought he was a girl, and hardly paid him any mind. It made stealing things easier.
He smiled when Eduard spoke again, wondering what he needed him for. “Do you remember Toris? I’m sure you do, he was like my best friend, we worked together remember?” His eyes sparkled a little. “He was going to go off to study and be all smart and stuff, but the ship he was on was attacked by pirates, and…” He looked suddenly quite sad. “He got kidnapped, I’ve been trying to find him forever, and I finally found a way to better my chances.” He was smiling again, looking all excited. “I happened to meet a totally awesome guy named Arthur, and he’s like a pirate and all, but not the bad kind, he’s really kind of a gentleman. I’m going with him, I have better chances of finding a pirate if I am one right? I just…” He locked eyes with Eduard. “I want you to come with me, so we can be together.”
He looked so eager, so hopeful. He wanted Eduard at his side through this crazy journey he had planned out in his mind. At the end of it all they could just settle down together, live happily ever after and never have to worry about anything else ever. That was how their adventure would work.
