Name: d’Madame Caroline Bausch
Country of Origin: Luxembourg
Gender Female
Age: Twenty.
Height: 149.86 cm (4’11”)
Weight: 52.16 kg (115 lbs.)
Appearance:
Due to her slight height and youthful features, one may be at first inclined to compare d’Madame Caroline Bausch to a life-size porcelain doll. The young doctor-to-be always keeps her curly dark-honey-blonde hair in an updo, as otherwise the strands are unruly and distracting, and accents her tawny eyes with a pair of gold spectacles equipped with a special attachment that magnifies finer details to her right eye.
As a woman of taste and culture, Caroline appreciates attire that is both elegant and practical, not being one to think the terms are mutually exclusive. She loves leather, suede, corduroy, and soft cotton cloth, particularly in shades of brown, gold, bronze, or cream.
On a given day, her outfit consists of the following: one brown corset (hooded), one short-sleeved cream shirt with puffed sleeves, a pair of fingerless glimmering yellow opera gloves (her favored signature wear other than her spectacles), a wrap around skirt in a shade of warm tan, one pair of brown tights with pinstripes in copper, bronze, yellow, and gold, one pair of lace boots with bronze and copper fixings, and, in cases of a house-call or a cloudy outing, a soft suede overcoat.
During medical examinations, d’Madame Bausch will of course trade her stylish gloves in favor of the more practical ones of plain white cloth, and as such she always keeps a store of disposables handy in her omnipresent pharmacy bag. Also contained within the weathered leather satchel are all her doctors’ accoutrements. On her person, Caroline carries her wallet in a safe pocket in the lining of her skirt, and a miniature pistol on the opposite side.
After all, a young woman can never be too careful, when living in these reckless times…
Crew member of: Aide to the World Sky Military
Status: Doctor
Personality:
Whilst easily inclined towards smiles, Caroline nevertheless maintains a sense of quiet dignity in her expressions, carefully composed even in the face of the most disagreeable of patients, bar-goers, and, it is not too impossible to imagine, pirates. A die-hard believer of common sense and practicality, d’Madame Bausch strives for order, often taking it upon herself to mediate surrounding conflicts and smooth ruffled feathers. At the same time, she abhors pig-headedness, and is not afraid to point out glaring flaws in other’s logic.
As she very often comes across as sociable but inaccessible, it can be surprising for those that are only acquainted with her that Caroline is in fact in possession of a tender bedside manner; temperate and compassionate, d’Madame Bausch will certainly go that extra mile to ensure her patient’s comfort and swift progress to recovery, and in fact can become strongly maternal.
This condition, however, has been known to last only until the patient is able to function on their own again—ex-patients that return seeking a brief re-experience of that attention will almost certainly be sorely disappointed. As someone who carefully guards her heart in a stone fortress under lock and key, Caroline is very shy and uncertain when it comes to romance, more likely to find a way to sidle out from an advance than actively encourage it. This may have something to do with the nagging fear that, if she commits to anyone, she risks losing a part of her identity.
A highly intelligent individual, d’Madame Bausch is absolutely fascinated by the human workings—anatomy, sociology, psychology, philosophy—and will gladly engage on any conversation handling such, at the risk of slipping into either doctoral jargon or accessing her rather impressive vocabulary. She is ambidextrous, able to speak four languages—English, Luxembourgish, German, French—and write in three—Luxembourgish, German, and French. It is her habit to write formally in French, German for work and every day, and Luxembourgish rarely.
On a final note, Caroline enjoys classical music, particularly those that heavily incorporate wind or brass instruments, and cannot stand bugs. Mice are cute, but bugs? Crush them into powder and brush away the remains.
History:
Caroline’s parents were united by business: her father worked at a distillery, and her mother inherited a bar. As both persons developed great fondness and comfort in one another, what started out as a mutually beneficial business arrangement became a marriage. Soon after, they had a son—by the time Caroline herself was born, he was already part of the country’s sky military, far up in the clouds. She liked to imagine him, sometimes, but the actual pictures over the mantelpiece never matched her imagination. As a young child, she also liked to imagine she had an older sister, though there was not a real-life basis for such fancies.
Growing up, Caroline shadowed her mother at the bar, and out of necessity, began to pick up the necessary skills for catering to a full night of customers. One night, at the tender age of seven, she witnessed a fight break out between two valued customers, and had to assist her mother in patching the men back together afterwards. This sparked what would become Caroline’s primary ambition: to pursue a career in health.
Fully devoting herself to schooling, Caroline was able to foster an impressive scholarly resume, earning her way to a prestigious medical college. Bolstering her education funds by taking on a part-time job at another bar, Caroline developed a sense of social skill, and was soon known as a valued intern and employee. With the few precious funds left over from her job, Caroline began to occasionally indulge in more elegant clothing, and garnered a healthy appreciation of fine music.
However, the college she was attending expected d’Madame Bausch to pursue a career as a nurse, rather than a full-fledged doctor. When it became clear that she was about to hit a glass ceiling, Caroline made a hard decision—to leave her native home and seek employment in the Americas, where, so she had heard, the people did not care as much who was tending their injuries and nursing their illness as long as it was someone, woman or not.
Finding a ship was a tricky matter, but eventually, the young doctor-to-be succeeded, boarding a route to a place in the Central Americas called Tortuga. Intending to seek a job at a bar there, Caroline hopes to gather enough funds to start her own office, as well as a trustworthy reputation.
It is only once she begins meeting strangely familiar peoples that Caroline finds herself on quite a different path than expected…
Allegiance: Wherever one is in need of a doctor.
