Name: Arthur Kirkland
Country of Origin: England
Gender Male
Age: 23
Height: 5 foot 7
Weight: 135 pounds
Appearance:
Arthur’s appearance is subject to change depending on circumstances. His basic features - green eyes, short messy blond hair, thick dark eyebrows and muscular physique - remain the same, but his overall appearance changes as he picks up a new role to play.
When he’s Pirate Captain Arthur Kirkland (although he insists he’s a privateer to any who call him a pirate), he stands with a bit of a slouch and appearing quite a bit shorter than he normally is. He wears bright, flamboyant clothes, but he always wears his red coat over top as well as his plumed tri-corn hat. There will always be a rapier hanging off his hip when he’s out of his rooms - and sometimes in his cabins as well, for he’s a very paranoid man - and a gun right beside it. If the feeling strikes him (usually when he’s really rather drunk) he’ll put an eyepatch on over one eye - even though his vision is rather sharp. He has two gold hoops in one ear, and a small emerald stone in the other. All in all, he’s rather messy looking.
When he’s Lord Arthur Kirkland, he stands with a straight back and exudes an aura of nobility that makes him seem taller than he is. He wears dark, sombre clothes of high quality - normally consisting of a black tailcoat, black trousers, white cotton button up with a stiff collar, white cravat, black waist coat, black socks and black leather shoes - with a black top hat and cloak for outside. He carries no visible weapon, only a walking cane - but hidden inside that cane is an 18 inch titanium blade. He keeps his hair gelled back, away from his eyes and beware any who make fun of his eyebrows.[/color]
Crew member of: The Grim
Status: Captain
Pet: One of his dearest friends accompanies him on all his travels - unfortunately no one can see it as it is one of the Fair Folk. The little green rabbit with wings enjoys hiding up in his tricorn - but when someone threatens Arthur badly enough that it feels the need to intervene, it morphs into his ships namesake - the Grim.
Crest:
Personality: Arthur has many different sides to him to represent the different ways he presents himself. On the sea, he’s loud and crass, hollering orders that are nearly as much curse as actual orders. He drinks a lot and depending on what drove him to drink, he will either be boisterous and chummy, or depressed and crying over his drinks until someone puts him to bed. He loves to fight and to steal - bringing in a large haul gives him nothing but happiness.
But when he becomes Lord Kirkland, he loses that flamboyancy - straight laced and easily flustered, he has a true gentleman’s spirit. He enjoys going on hunts and tolerates balls and other social gatherings, though his preference is to be at home, catching up on the news with a hot cup of tea. When he is out on social visits, his hosts make sure to not serve anything alcoholic as he gets drunk easily and his behavior becomes very much like what they assume a pirates would be.
Little do they know...
History: Arthur was born and raised as the fourth child in a large family, with older brothers who enjoyed picking on him and an older sister who didn't. Needless to say, he got into a lot of fights, much to their parents chagrin and once Arthur became old enough to attend lessons he was hustled off to try and make something of himself. He hated all those lessons - wanting to be allowed to go off and play like his siblings - but grudgingly did well at them as his parents praised him for the hard work.
That was the routine of his life that he had the urge to break out of around the time he was fifteen. As much as he loved his family, he needed to get out and make his own way in life, the way he wanted to, so after saying his goodbyes and promising to write, he headed for the harbor and hopped on a merchant ship not belonging to his fathers company.
His first voyage started off wonderfully - but ended rather abruptly. The ship was attacked and overwhelmed by pirates, who appeared out of no where. The men on Arthur’s crew were outnumbered and outgunned, with him trying his hardest to fight off the horrible crew.
He woke up hours later with a splitting headache from the sword-hilt to the head he’d received, one wrist handcuffed to a bed, which he was laying on. The owner of the bed was the captain of the ship and insisted on Arthur calling him Master Renato. The tall, Italian man had taken a shine to the young, noble brat who put up such a fight and decided to take him in as a slave. Said young man did not appreciate the sentiment at all.
Over the many months of his slavery and embarrassment, Arthur began to pick up the necessary skills to survive on a pirate ship - and unwittingly finding himself enjoying it. One morning, Renato declared that he was no longer a slave if he wished to remain on the ship as part of the crew... something the young man decided to take him up on. He rose through the ranks on the pirate ship, looted and pillaged up and down the European coastline and enjoyed every minute of it.
After a hard battle, Renato suddenly found he had acquired a new ship as they had been forced to kill all the crew and passengers. Arthur, by this time, was his First Mate, and was offered the ship as a reward for good service - and quite suddenly, he was Captain Arthur Kirkland.
The first thing he decided he wanted to do was to go home and see how his family was doing. But when he got there, the house was abandoned and the men who worked for his fathers company said that the man had died at sea - and the wife and child had left for places unknown. He grieved for his father and despite searching with his limited resources, could find no trace of his family. Determined to find a way to find them, he went to the Queen and asked for her aide. She promised the help he requested - if he would put his pirating ways to the service of England.
Now, as a Privateer who sails the seas and destroys any whom his Queen calls enemy, he has hopes that his current missions will bring him the answers he needs, but it never seems to come to pass. In the mean time, strange dreams began to come to him - dreams of things he had done and yet not done in his lifetime...
Roleplay Sample: Gunfire echoed around him, deafened him and through the fear and the anger and pain he knew that he needed to protect the man beside him. Turning his head enough to make sure that Afonso (no... not Afonso, but who? Portu-) was keeping up, he managed to see - and hear - the bomb coming their way.
"Portugal - watch out!" he yelled, heart pounding in fear as he leapt towards the other man and shoved him as hard as he could and hoped, prayed it was far enough.
The bomb went off directly beside him - the pain! It whited out everything for a long moment as his body flew through the air and landed with a sickening crunch on the ground. So many bones broken and - yes, there it was... - the feeling of blood coating his throat, seeping down into his lungs - a punctured lung, he was choking on his own blood. He was dying.
Managing to turn his head took up all his reserve strength. There! As his vision began to fade, he could see Portugal (Afonso?) running towards him, alive and okay. "P-por..." he gasped out as everything...
...stopped...
