The sea breeze hit William's face as he stared at the cost line of China. It was such an interesting place that he couldn't help but feel eager for what news came from the others. He bounced on the toes of his feet as he continued to watch the shore. It wasn't until a second later that something small and bronze fell nearby that drew the boy's attention upwards.
Flying with a good amount of difficulty was a little bird. A sparrow by it's design. Steam gushed from it's hinges and unsealed holes that Will hadn't been able to weld yet. The wax that held the feathers onto the little bird where failing fast as the sea water and the sun's heat melted and washed them away. Will quickly held his hands out for the little sparrow to land on and not a moment to late. The last few feathers from it's wings fell into his upturned hands.
At the breast of the bird there was a small vial and it clung to a few things with it's tiny claws. William took the small vial out of the bird's chest and raised it to the sunlight. It was a bluish green color, that of fresh water. But it had a good clarity to it. Fresh clean water. It almost looked to good to be true because if it wasn't up to the light Will swore it looked empty.
He placed the vial back into the bird's chest. Some good news to tell his fath- the Captain. Fresh water was always a good thing to find especially on a ship. Any kind for that matter. Next Will took some of the plants from the small creatures claws. One had the smell of mint, and the other recognizable spices along with a small blue flower. He didn't know why the sparrow, Icarus, had picked this plant maybe it thought...and that word is used loosely, that it was pretty and decided to bring it back. Next he took the long blue and red feather. It was truly a sight to see. It changed colours when you turned it in the sunlight and sparkled brilliantly.
William took out his little pocket book and quickly flipped to the known species of birds. He looked and read almost all descriptions but found not one that had a feather like this. He put it away before looking around quickly and pulling out an old fearie tale book. He flipped through it quickly before ending up in the Chinese tales. In the fourth chapter there was a bird called a Fenghuang. Or a Phoenix in other words. It's tail feathers were supposed to be very colorful to distract a person before it flew off. More then half of it's tail feathers left behind to keep the predator or person occupied. He continued to read which made his excitment grow more and more. Where ever Icarus had found this, it had to be a place where magic and science met. And that meant, William had to go. Quickly he put everything into his coat pockets, Icarus went onto his shoulder, and ran to find the captain.
"Captain! Oh Captain!" He called out looking everywhere. He dodged some crew members and ducked under some barrels that were being moved in his search to find his adoptive father. The Captain of the Grim. Arthur Kirkland.
