‘A defender of justice…?’ Yong Soo’s mouth couldn’t help but quirk slightly at the phrasing, averting his eyes slightly but not outright dismissing the compliment. Alfred calling him such a thing seemed ironic, though he could tell the American was being sincere.
‘Wait, I’m cool, da ze?’ The Korean perked up instantly, lifting his head with bright eyes and a broad grin, fluttering his sleeves energetically. “Haha, you really think so, da ze? I’m mostly in it for the travel and money, though.” He paused, reflecting that that wasn’t quite true, and softened his grin slightly, tilting his head, “Well, that and people should be able to count on the idea they’re going to come back home, right?”
That central idea was what fueled Yong Soo’s search for his family, after all.
The Korean looked up again at Alfred’s comment, quirking an eyebrow as the mental image flashed through his head too, adding Kiku and Phuong and Cái and…
He couldn’t help it, he snorted too, clasping a sleeve over his mouth to hide his broadening grin, shaking his head. “That’s pretty much the idea, da ze, but, that’s still a funny image.” He lifted his head, smiling. “You could probably actually make something like that, as long as you acknowledged the idea originated in Korea~”
A thought struck Yong Soo suddenly, prompting the Korean to lean over the side of the elephant-carrier, peering out while trying to be careful enough not to be seen. The mechanical construction appeared to be travelling through a bit of jungle still, the sound of the ocean and city slowly fading. After a second, he turned to look at Alfred again, brows furrowing slightly.
“Hey, da ze, do you have any idea where we’re going?”

”’Course I do! Heroes never lie, so I only speak the truth!” Alfred continued grinning, giving a playful wink at the end of his statement. The comment of people going home made him pause though, thinking back to his own home. And for some reason, the nation he was born in. Alfred really couldn’t understand it, but the idea of being so far away from the States made him even more home sick then being so far from his family.
Of course the Korean’s snort pulled him away from the potentially somber thoughts. For a moment he wondered just what was so funny. Oh right, the mental image of Yong Soo’s ship. He laughed along with him. ”You could probably actually make something like that, as long as you acknowledged the idea originated in Korea~” Alfred’s eyes lit up.
”Seriously!? That would be so cool!” The plots for making a giant mechanical elephant were shoved aside in favor of figuring out how to make the turtle ship. Oh man, it would be so cool to actually make it. It could act as a little guard turtle for the shop! Or maybe even an alarm clock. Could he put fireworks or something else in the canons? Ah, so many possibilities! He couldn’t wait to get back to base and-
He blinked looking at Yong Soo before mimicking what he had just done and peeking out from their hiding spot. Chewing his lip the America sat back, giving a helpless shrug. ”I have no idea…” Even if he did have a map of the area, well, geography was never his strongest subject. All he could gather was that they were moving further and further away from the city, which could prove to be a bad thing. Especially if they had no idea where they were going and how to get back.
An almost mischievious grin cross his lips as he moved to a squatting position, peering out of the carrier again. They were surrounded by trees. Most likely they could just snag a branch and climb down a tree. ”We should probably jump ship, so to speak! Don’t wanna get too far from the city, ‘specially if both our ships are there, y’know?”

Yong Soo returned the shrug, rubbing the back of his neck as he peered out of the carrier again, wondering what they should do. ‘Kiku and Phuong will have my head if I got lost in India,’ he mused. Naturally associating his sibling’s displeasure with a sheathed sword and a heavy rice paddle, the Korean couldn’t quite repress a shudder.
The cloth beneath the Asian shifted, bringing his attention back to the American as the blond curled over the edge, arms bunching in preparation to launch. ”We should probably jump ship, so to speak! Don’t wanna get too far from the city, ‘specially if both our ships are there, y’know?” The suggestion was as casual as it was inherently dangerous, and Alfred’s daredevil smile showed that he was entirely serious.
Yong Soo could tell that he was really going to like this kid.
The Korean returned the grin two-fold, rolling up his sleeves and crouching up beside the other. “Ye, I definitely think it’s time to fly again, da ze,” he chuckled, bracing his hands on the side of the carrier and peering into the jungle. “Let’s hope for another cushy landing, ye?”
Peering ahead, Yong Soo spotted a copse of trees that hung just a hair closer to the road than the rest of the canopy. He nudged Alfred, jerking his head toward the hanging branches, and beamed. “Next stop?” Rather than waiting for an answer, the Korean gathered himself up as the branches approached, barely waiting a moment before launching himself forward like a pouncing cat.
The branch caught the Captain a bit roughly in the midsection, knocking the air out of him as he scrabbled for purchase, but within short order the Korean managed to claw his way on top of the bark, coughing out a laugh as he waved his sleeve back towards the other. “Safe!”
((Trying out a new format. What do you think?))

Alfred couldn’t help himself from laughing (probably a bit too loudly) when Yong Soo merely jumped into a canopy. He waited only a second to determine that his new friend had safely landed before jumping right after him. Albeit less gracefully. Grinning widely again he was overcome with the sensation of just flying. For a moment he had wings.
Then he began to plummet and had to quickly remind himself that if he didn’t grab a branch or something he’d be a pancake. Hitting his shoulder against a branch Alfred couldn’t help but cringe, before hurrying to grab onto the offending object to keep himself from falling any further. Upon safely pulling himself onto the branch he couldn’t stop himself from laughing; throwing his head back and unsettling a few birds in the process.
”Wouldn’t mind doin’ that again!” He turned to look at Yong Soo, still grinning widely. ”Though maybe onto something softer again instead of a tree.”
He was pretty sure his shoulder would be smarting later. But it was worth it. Especially since at least now they could just follow the giant elephant foot prints back. Nodding to himself Alfred began climbing down the tree, and upon safely making it to the ground glanced up at where Yong Soo was. He opened his arms wide, shouting up in almost a teasing manner. ”If you fall I’ll catch you!”
(Very interesting!! And blah, sorry this wasn’t that great of a response orz; )

Yong Soo grinned, nodding eagerly. “Ye, a pond may be better,” he snickered. The Korean watched as the American climbed down, making sure that the blond was safe before he began to pick his own way down through the branches. Alfred had launched himself a bit later than Yong Soo and had landed lower, so it wasn’t really surprising that he touched the ground first.
Yong Soo snorted softly in response to the teasing comment, looking down toward the other with a confident smile. “I won’t fall, da ze!” he chided, reaching for the next branch down, “Balance originated in Kore-A!”
The Asian’s boast was cut short as the frail branch he latched onto in distraction snapped, sending a flailing Yong Soo down with a surprised yell. White sleeves fluttering like wings, the Captain crashed into Alfred’s arms, most likely knocking them both sprawling and out of breath. Once the world stopped spinning, Yong Soo looked up at the American, sheepish.
“Aigo, maybe it didn’t,” he remarked shakily, trying to hide his flustered blush with a broader grin. “Thank you for catching me, da ze.”

A pond would be better indeed! Or maybe a lake would be a bit better, because lakes tended to be deeper then ponds right? Alfred couldn’t remember off the top of his head, and had to make a mental note to check if the silly thought was correct or not. In the mean time he continued to watch Yong Soo climb down the tree, chuckling at his assurance that he wasn’t going to fall and that balance originated-
His mind didn’t even have time to register his actions as he rushed forward the second the frail branch snapped. The next thing Alfred knew he had his arms full of the energetic Korean and they were both sprawled on the ground – the wind knocked out of Alfred.
After a moment though Alfred couldn’t contain his laughter, propping himself up by the elbows when Yong Soo and moved and waving off the words of gratitude with a grin. ”Hey, no thanks needed! Said I would catch you didn’t I?”
Smiling he pushed the others shoulder good-naturedly, much like the playful punch he’d given him earlier when they were still on top of the mechanical elephant. ”’sides it's what heroes do, catchin’ people when they fall that is!” He paused for a moment, eyes rolling upwards in thought before he laughed to himself, jumping up to his feet and rolling his sore shoulder. ”And it’s what friends’re for y’know?”
Smiling at the Korean he offered him a hand up. Only partly hoping he wasn’t being too forward. Sure they hadn’t known each other for very long (barely an hour probably) but it sure felt like Alfred had known Yong Soo for a while. Plus he was a cool guy! Alfred really hoped Yong Soo wouldn’t take offense to the statement.

”Hey, no thanks needed! Said I would catch you didn’t I?”
Yong Soo returned the grin, nodding eagerly through his flush. “Ye, you did, da ze!” At Alfred’s push the Korean’s smile broadened, full of that childish lightness close contact always inspired, even if he pushed back with a snicker.
”’sides it's what heroes do, catchin’ people when they fall that is!” The American stood and Yong Soo looked up, listening to him continue to talk when he was suddenly struck again by just how good-looking the blond was. It was just a momentary thought, an observation of Alfred’s youthful face, broad shoulders, blue eyes, and winning smile, but it was just enough to make the Korean’s thoughts lapse slightly, his heart flutter.
”And it’s what friends’re for y’know?”
Yong Soo blinked, suddenly aware again, and he beamed up at the American’s offer, letting the sleeve fall off his wrist and taking the other’s hand in his own with a decisive motion. “Definitely, da ze! I would know: friendship originated in Korea.” He hoisted himself up with Alfred’s help, more than conscious of the warmth in the grip and the strength of their fingers, and trying to convince himself that he wasn’t.
That didn’t stop him from subconsciously brushing his fingers across the Westerner’s palm when he let go, turning towards the road and facing the city. “Well, we better get walking!” he exclaimed, letting his sleeve cover his hands before swinging his arms behind his head, starting to pace forward and whistling cheerily at his hair curl. He paused only a beat as a thought occurred to him, and he looked back at Alfred.
“If you want, I could show you my ship when we get there, da ze?” He and Sang Ki grinned, eyes squinting. “It may help if you actually plan on making a mini-turtle.”

Alfred laughed at the remarks about friendship originating in Korea while at the same time minorly relieved he hadn’t crossed some line in assuming they were friends. Then again, even if Yong Soo hadn’t agreed Alfred still would’ve viewed the Korean as his friend. Grinning he helped him up, wondering why this felt familiar to him. Ah well, more thoughts to think about later.
”Aw maaan, this is gonna be a long walk isn’t it?” The childish whine was punctuated by a small sigh. Still though he followed Yong Soo, falling in step behind him in a matter of moments and adjusting the strap of his backpack (he’d almost forgotten about it with everything that had happened. Good thing he didn’t though! He’d hate to have his notebook fall into the wrong hands!). He had to wonder just how far they’d traveled. Probably a long ways. Oh well, at least they had giant elephant tracks to follow back!
The offer to see Yong Soo’s ship made Alfred trip over his own feet. Face planting right into the dirt road despite how he flailed his arms outwards to keep his balance. Recovering quickly he jumped up, sky blue eyes sparkling. ”Are you serious!? Really? I can see your ship? You don’t mind? Oh man Yong Soo, you are seriously the coolest, awesomest person I have ever met in the entire world! Y-You are serious right? This isn’t a joke?”
To say Alfred was bouncing with excitement would be an understatement.
(Aaaah, this isn’t the best orz; sorry Korea)
