"Hwaaaah~" hummed the 17 year old Anaïs. "It's beautiful here!"
Anaïs had never been in such a wonderful place. It was filled with life; townsfolk went about with their own business with smiles on their faces, children played games in the streets, she could hear catchy music in the distance, and delicious foods wafted in the air. It was nothing like home, where people had to travel a good distance to find them. But here, here there was so much to see and do! It was truly enchanting.
"Hmmm, it certainly is beautiful...but," Anaïs mumbled to herself, "I'm just so...so..." She put her hand on her stomach. "Hungryyyy!" In truth, she had skipped a few meals due to almost missing a ride to this town. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep, and when she awoke, she was surprised to find she was already at her destination. But I'm so close, I have to keep going! she tried to convince herself.
Her stomach growled loudly in protest. Then again, it would be rather lousy if I starved to death. She opened up her Timples' case and took out her money sack. She peeked inside. "1, 2, 3....ehhh, that's it?" She groaned. "Not enough for a meal..."
She shook her head. "No, no! Don't be down! Food that you earn tastes better anyway!" She grinned. "Time for a little music~"
She patrolled the streets until she found a suitable space to set up. Case open and on the ground. Timple in her hands. Hundreds of people in the street. A match made in heaven.
She began her warm-up. Testing out the chords, making sure they were in tune. The song she chose was the one she always used to warm up. The national anthem of Andorra; just jazzed up a little. For some reason, she always sang this song exceptionally well. It was a beautiful song, with a wonderful tale. It had always filled her with pride to hear it, and it was by far her favorite song. She cleared her throat.
El gran Carlemany, mon Pare dels àrabs em deslliurà,
I del cel vida em donà de Meritxell, la gran Mare,
Princesa nasquí i Pubilla entre dues nacions neutral
Sols resto l'única filla de l'imperi Carlemany.
Creient i lliure onze segles, creient i lliure vull ser.
Siguin els furs mos tutors i mos Prínceps defensors!
By this time in the song, she had already drawn in a reasonably sized crowd (only a few people). Good, Anaïs thought to herself. I can ask one of them for directions after. She needed directions to the docks. After all, she did come to Spain to find a ship. After hearing a tale of a great treasure to be found, she had hurriedly made her way, in the hopes of finding a crew to join. I will save my family.
I mos Princeps defensors!
The great Charlemagne, my Father, liberated me from the Saracens,
And from heaven he gave me life from Meritxell, the great Mother.
I was born a Princess, a Maiden neutral between two nations.
I am the only remaining daughter of the Carolingian empire
A believer and free for eleven centuries, a believer and free I want to be.
Be the laws of the land my tutors, and my Princes my defenders!
And my Princes my defenders!
( annnnd here we go! Introducing Andorra~ I hope it did a good job ^_^; )
Afonso couldn't help but feel anxious being in Spain. He couldn't explain why, but he really couldn't wait to just ship off and leave this place behind. Why couldn't they have docked in Portugal? It wasn't like it was incredibly far away.
Sighing, he shoved his hands into his pockets, continuing to head towards the docks. Maybe he could just hide out on the ship until Antonio finally decided he had had enough time in his homeland for La Madre Maria to ship off again. Anything would be better then just being here.
That had been his plan though. At least until he had heard music. Coming to a halt, he turned his head, spotting a young girl singing. For a long while he watched her, head tilted to one side. There was something vaguely familiar about her. Not that he could place how.
When she had finished performing, he joined the small crowd in applauding. Before approaching the case and dropping some money into it. He was about to walk away, but paused, not being able to shake the feeling the familiar feeling. "Excuse me for asking... But you don't look like you are from around here..."
(Derp... Sorry for any fail here OTL;)
When Anaïs finished her songs, she couldn't help but feel giddy. She was truly passionate about singing, and being able to perform in such a beautiful place with wonderful people was bliss. Ah, Mare, Pare, if only you could see me now.
"Thank you! Thank you for your generous donations!~" she cheerfully sang. " You are all wonderful~"
When she saw the tall brown haired man however, she froze. He was so very, very familiar that her head began to hurt. Who...? I know him, but how?
She was taken aback when he spoke to her. "Eh...ah. No, no I am not from here..." she said with a small smile, her head pounding. " I'm...I'm from Andorra."
As she spoke and stared at him more, the pain in her head began to fade. Deep in her subconscious, her mind begged her to remember, but soon the pain was gone.
She smiled more brightly. "I'm a traveler! Oh! And I'm looking for the docks! I want to join a ship! Can you tell me which way, sir?"
Before the man could respond, however, Anaïs's stomach growled loudly once again. "Eh..." she mumbled, embarrassed, while grabbing her stomach. "I'm sorry..."
*Mare- Mom
*Pare- Dad
( Yay, Port! Thank you for gettin Andorra started! =D)
"Andorra? What's it like?" He had never managed to get there, but he'd always heard nice things. Afonso couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "I'm actually on my way to the docks right now to go back to my ship."
And stay there until they left Spain. He felt far too nervous here. Maybe he would radio Arthur?
"I can take you to them..." He trailed off, and couldn't help but laugh when he heard her stomach growl. "But... Maybe first you should get some food?"
As soon as the man said that he had a ship, Anaïs's mood skyrocketed. Of course, it was interrupted by her stomach, but Anaïs was now determined to stay with him; he was the ticket to saving her family. But she had to deal with the hunger situation first.
"Ahahaha....I'm very sorry sir. I don't want to distract you from your errands..." Anaïs admitted, a bit ashamed. "I promise I won't take long! I can tell you about my homeland in the meantime!" She gently took his arm, and pointed towards a small outdoor market. It was a fair distance away. "I will only need a few things!"
While practically dragging the trapped man down the street, she began to ramble.
"To answer your question sir, Andorra is a very beautiful place! I love everything about it; the people, the languages, the mountains. There is no better for me!" She couldn't hide her pride when it came to Andorra. "I know it like the back of my hand!" She giggled. "But my favorite part of Andorra is my family. We live pretty far away from everyone, but it isn't lonely because of them!"
She smiled brightly and looked at the man. "All 10 of us! Mare, Pare, Alvar, Beatriu, Carles, Esteve, Carme, little Anya, and me! And Artista! He isn't a relative, but he taught me almost everything I know." She pointed at her Timple. "He gave this to me when I left." She finally frowned. "It will be a long time before I can see them again..."
Anaïs realized they were already at the market. She shook her head, then turned to grin at him. "I will only be a few minutes. Perhaps when I'm done, you can tell me about yourself? A-and your ship?"
As she picked up a few cheap fruits and snacks, she kept an eye on the man from the corner of her eye. She would not lose this chance...
( long post is loooong haha)
(XD Never apologize for a long post!)
"I was done with my errands, no need to apologize." He laughed a bit at the girls apology. Before yelping as he stumbled, nearly being dragged along by the girl. Still though, he couldn't help but chuckle a bit more at her enthusiasm. Listening to her as she rambled away about Andorra. Smiling a little, he had to whistle at the size of her family. "Ten, really? They must miss you a lot."
He took note of of the frown, but chose not to question it. Freeing himself from her hold and crossing his arms over his chest as she shopped around. He smiled a bit. "That would only be fair I suppose. Perhaps we should start with introductions? My name's Afonso. And yours is..?"
She smiled warmly at Afonso. "My name is Anaïs. Anaïs Castillo. And, I hope my family misses me, at least as much as I do! Hehe, they kicked me out!"
She said that without a trace of scorn or bitterness. When Afonso said nothing (admittedly, those words have probably never been said so cheerfully before), she grinned, then began to explain. "They had too. We've...had some troubles in the past year and...well...we can barely manage to scrape by. Our crops are failing and our profits are being stolen. It has been pretty rough! So, they sent me away! I don't mind really, if I can help them by leaving then I would again!" Her face formed a determined smile. "But I'm going to do something even better!"
She did not elaborate on this, as she had finished grabbing her food and went to purchase it. After spending the last of her money, she hungrily scarfed down a juicy pear.
Between rapid chews, she managed to say, "I'm really interested in your ship, Mr.Afonso! Can you tell me about it?" She stared at him with pleading eyes.
"They-" He cut himself off before he could continue. It would to push any further, and probably only upset her... And he couldn't help but stare at her as she continued to speak. There was no anger in her voice. Her words were so sincere. A sad smile tugged at his lips when she hand finished, reaching out instead to rest a hand on her shoulder. "You're a good daughter."
Smiling a happier smile he looked a head, before looking back when she spoke. Raising an eyebrow he stared at her a moment, he had a distinct feeling she had ulterior motives besides walking with him to the dock. "I'm a member of a sky pirate crew. La Madre Maria."
A pirate ship?
This was something Anaïs didn't expect. A pirate was the last thing she would have guessed Afonso was. Her father had told her stories about pirates; they were all cutthroat criminals that would kill and steal for fun. However, Anaïs refused to believe that Afonso had any of these qualities. Perhaps not all were like that?
But the question was about the treasure. Surely, many people have heard about the legendary treasure, but who are hunting for it? Pirates. Who is going to find it? Pirates of course!
Could I become a pirate?
She thought about her family. Their smiling faces turning to sorrow as they slowly lost everything. Being left alone.
I would become anything for them.
Anaïs snapped out of her thoughts, realizing she had been silent for a few moments. She smiled timidly to Afonso. "Ah...sorry about that...I just can't really imagine you as a pirate! You're too nice! I guess they aren't all like what I've heard." I would join you even if you were like what I've heard.
She looked at him with determined eyes. "I guess I should tell you why I want to join a ship. Being a pirate, you must have heard about the treasure, yes? That's what I'm after. I need it for my family." She smiled. "And I have a feeling that I should join the La Madre Maria. I don't know why, but I'm...being pulled to it. I don't know what I can do for a ship, but I'll do anything. Anything."
It was true. Anaïs felt a strange pull to the ship, primarily because of Afonso. Something about him made her feel she needed to follow him. And she was determined to not let him slip through her fingers.
( DERP, I just realized I have been spelling his name wrong this entire time...../fail)
